  • ʔálʔal Cafe

We’re partnering with ʔálʔal Cafe (pronounced alal) for our Friday afternoon Volunteer Activity to create an immersive and delicious learning experience for all!

Connection to traditional dishes goes beyond taste and conversations around the dinner table. Food connects us to our culture; to our Indigenous roots and identity. The movement to reclaim, reintegrate, & revitalize Indigenous foods is here. ʔálʔal Café is part of that mission, made reality.

During our activity we’ll learn more about their mission, how the café allows them to show up for the community, and participate in an immersive tasting & learning experience where we’ll try their coffee and baked goods honoring Indigenous ingredients and learn why food is an integral part of Native identity that the community works to preserve.

Fun Fact: ʔálʔal is Lushootseed for home. Lushootseed, also called the language of the Puget Sound, is a language made up of a dialect continuum of several Salish tribes of modern-day Washington state. Watch this video HERE to learn more.
