in and around Napa: Some of our favorite spots to check out during your free time

  • Hog Island Oysters

Hog Island began oyster farming in 1983 with the goal of raising the best quality, sustainable shellfish in a beautiful location. They started our farm with a five-acre shellfish lease in Tomales Bay, CA raising the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas), which they call their Hog Island® Sweetwater. Today, they farm on 160 acres of intertidal lands in Tomales Bay where raising all five edible oyster varieties found in the Northern Hemisphere, plus Manila clams.

  • Farmstead Long Meadow

This ranch has it all: a restaurant, a cafe, and winery. Farmstead’s menu focuses on beef from the Long Meadow herd — steaks, meatballs, meatloaf, beef tartare, and more — and spotlights LMR produce, olive oil, and honey. Don’t miss the mini ham sandwiches, featuring salty ham on biscuits slathered with pepper jelly. In the mornings, a commissary next to the restaurant offers grab-and-go coffee, green juice, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches.

  • Tra Vigne Pizzeria

The legendary Tra Vigne restaurant may have closed a few years ago, but its sister pizzeria keeps the legacy alive with several of Tra Vigne’s iconic dishes, like the must-order mozzarella al minuto. Pair that with one of Tra Vigne’s signature pies, like the Ducati (capicola, spicy Italian sausage, mozzarella, marinara, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes), paninis, pastas, or even a burger. They’ve also got one of the best happy hours around. Offered seven days a week, you can get drinks, oysters on the half shell, wings, and arancini for super cheap.

  • Mustards Grill

After 30 years of feeding Napa Valley and its visitors, Mustards Grill is still the hub of the food and wine community where winemakers lunch with truckers and chefs come to dine on their night off. Alternately known as the fancy rib joint with way too many wines, Mustards is still the place to go for a heaping plate of honest American fare with worldly sophistication, washed down with a glass of the valley’s finest.

  • Fieldwork's Napa Taproom

Fieldwork’s Napa Taproom is located within the bustling Oxbow Public Market in Downtown Napa. Visitors to our Napa Taproom can expect an ever-changing tap list of fresh releases to enjoy by sampler flight or by the glass.

  • AVOW

Napa’s historic Fagiani’s bar (built in 1908) reopened as AVOW in 2019 under the ownership of fifth-generation Napan Joe Wagner of the Copper Cane Wine & Provisions brand. The building has three uniquely designed floors (including a rooftop terrace). You can start your evening with oysters, caviar, and roasted bone marrow with a whiskey luge. The menu has options for both meat lovers (duck confit gnocchi, anyone?) and plant-based diners, like the crispy mushroom calamari and BBQ carrots. Open for lunch and Sunday brunch, AVOW is also a great spot for a cocktail during a night out in downtown Napa.

  • Oakville Grocery

This venerable sandwich shop and deli sits conveniently along Highway 29 and has soothed the soul of many a hungry traveler. It’s a great place to secure fine provisions for your Napa Picnic. The restored historic grocery — which has been in operation since 1881 and claims to be the oldest in the state — makes great sandwiches (the muffuletta is locally famous) and wood-fired pizzas. While you’re there, shop for high-end coffee, desserts, wine, olive oil, and other pantry provisions.

  • Sonoma Raceway

The stars of the NASCAR Cup Series, including reigning winner and Northern California native Kyle Larson, return to Sonoma Raceway in wine country on Sunday June 12th for the Toyota/Save Mart 350.
